   Lay your paper down horizontally. Place the long sides of the paper on top and bottom.

   Fold the paper in half.

   Mark a point on the top edge. It should be 1/2" (12mm) in from the center

   Mark a point on the bottom edge. It should be between 1/2" (12mm) to 3" (7.5 cm) in from the other side....depending on size and shape of wing you want. The one shown here is 3 inches.

   Draw a line between the two points. Fold along this angled line.

   Pinch the first fold. Pinch the center fold to hold it closed as you fold back the wings along the second, angled fold line. You now have the basic shape of the kite.

   Secure it together. Run some tape along the length of the join or with a couple of staples at each end of the fold on the spine.

   Tape your stick or straw across the wings of the kite. It should be horizontal, in line with the side points.

   Use a hole-puncher to make a hole in the bottom flap. It should be about one third of the length from the narrower end of the flap (top of kite).

    Tie your kite string through the hole. Secure with a firm but gentle knot.

    Make a tail. You can tape a length of ribbon, plastic tape, or even a strip of newspaper to the bottom end of the kite. A rolled up polythene bag cut into 1-inch (25mm) slices will give lengths of plastic to use as tails.

    Decorate your kite. Add sparkles, glitter; etc. Use pencils, pens and paints to decorate. Do not attach anything extra or you will have an unbalanced kite.
